Photograph Byzantine domes, the colorful streets of Balat, the Grand Bazaar's light and texture, and Istanbul's skyline where two continents meet.
Istanbul gives me a constant tension between the monumental and the intimate, and I love working with both. The Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque are obvious subjects, but the real challenge is finding your own angle, shooting into the light inside, isolating a minaret against a dramatic sky, or catching the call to prayer echo across the Bosphorus at dusk.
The Balat district is where I slow down. The pastel facades and steep cobblestone lanes create natural leading lines and color palettes you won't find in most European cities. I shoot street here, local life, doorways, kids playing, cats on window sills, it's dense with story in every frame.
The Grand Bazaar rewards patience. I go early to get the stall holders setting up before the crowds arrive, working with shafts of light coming through the vaulted ceiling. Outside, the Galata Tower and the Maiden's Tower offer classic cityscape compositions, and the Bosphorus between them is one of my favorite backdrops anywhere.
