Scotland's west coast in autumn is one of the most atmospherically rich places I know for landscape photography. Glencoe has this quality where the valley light shifts constantly, one minute it's flat and grey, the next a shaft of sun breaks through the clouds and everything glows. I shoot a lot of long exposures here, using the waterfalls and lochs as foregrounds against the drama overhead.
Skye deserves its reputation. The Old Man of Storr at blue hour, the Fairy Pools with their milky water, the Quiraing in early morning mist, every shot requires patience but almost always delivers. I find Skye works best when you lean into the moody weather rather than waiting for clear skies that rarely come.
The castles are where history and landscape merge most powerfully. Eilean Donan at sunset with its reflection in the loch is a classic for a reason, and Kilchurn on Loch Awe rewards anyone willing to get up early. The Jacobite Steam Train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct gives you one of the most cinematic shots in all of Scotland.
